Edwidge Danticat Visits her Haitian Roots, a
documentary from producer Ann Armstrong Scarboro of Mosaic Media Arts and editor Susan Wilcox of Full Duck Productions is now available!

Edwidge Danticat, the award-winning, prolific Haitian-American novelist, speaks frankly about the Duvalier dictatorship, being separated from her parents for eight years, becoming a woman, racism and prejudice, valuing the self, her sense of mystery and the creative process in this interview in Miami in 2003. The documentary reveals Danticat’s strength, warmth, generosity, sensitivity for others who have suffered and her ability to derive unique insights from adverse circumstances. The conversation includes Danticat’s thoughts on the need for more Haitian-American writers, the importance of literature, her own audience and her dreams for the future. Illustrated with family photographs, Haitian art, Vodun flags and footage of Haiti, the documentary ends with a compelling reading from Danticat’s collection of short stories, Krik? Krak! (English) and La récolte douce des larmes (French). In English, DVD format, 40 minutes long. Purchase now by choosing “order an FDP video” at www.fullduck.com.
