Visiting Assistant Professor - Temporary (Two-Years, Full-Time)

The Africana Studies Program invites applications for a two-year full-time visiting faculty position in Africana Studies beginning July 1, 2018; Ph.D. preferred, advanced ABD considered. The ability to teach Foundations of Africana Studies is required. The primary field within Africana Studies is open, but a graduate degree in Africana/Black Studies is desirable. Successful candidates will also be expected to teach advanced courses on one's field of expertise, a course on Africana Studies methodology, as well as a senior capstone course within African/Africana Studies. The successful candidate's work will be informed by theoretical and historical perspectives on race, reflecting the experiences of Africa, African Americans, and the African Diaspora.
The Program values intellectual diversity and supports a wide range of critical and theoretical approaches that help bring people together across disciplines as they address questions of race in its historic and structural forms.

Founded as Hobart College for men and William Smith College for women, Hobart and William Smith Colleges today are a highly selective residential liberal arts institution with a single administration, faculty and curriculum but separate dean's offices, student governments, athletic programs and traditions. The Colleges are located in a small diverse city in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. With an enrollment of approximately 2,300, the Colleges offer 62 different majors and minors from which students choose two areas of concentration, one of which must be an interdisciplinary program.
