The Executive Council of the African Literature Association would like to express its deepest concern about the detention of Tsitsi Dangarembga, Booker prize nominee and 2019 ALA keynote speaker, by the Zimbabwean authorities. According to the BBC, Dangarembga was arrested on Friday, July 31, 2020 by the police while “carrying placards” in a public protest. The ALA will continue to monitor the situation.
