The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. UT reflects this vibrancy; with 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News and World Report.
We are particularly interested in scholars of African-American literature, African diasporas, and or Black cultural studies. We welcome theoretically informed research that adopts transnational or activist approaches. The candidate’s teaching specializations will complement existing departmental strengths in American literature, gender, sexuality, and colonialism.
Our recently redesigned major in English includes courses on identity and difference, revolutions and rebellions, literary history, and theory; the new hire will have the opportunity to design course content in these areas and others and to shape curricular development in the major.
The new hire will be expected to teach 24 credits each year, typically divided into three courses per semester. The course load will be evenly split between literature and Academic Writing. The University of Tampa, an independent, private institution, is committed to diversity and academic freedom. We particularly seek candidates whose writing, experiences, and interests give voice to historically underrepresented communities. The successful candidate must show promise of scholarly achievement and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level in literature and academic writing. Teaching responsibilities in literature include courses at all levels.
A Ph.D. will be required by the time of appointment.
