The French Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2017. The specialty for this position is Transnational France with a preferred focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) diaspora, from a literary, anthropological, sociological and/or historical approach. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. by the time of appointment are preferred. Superior fluency in French and demonstrated experience and excellence in language teaching is required, as the majority of courses are taught in French, and the position includes language instruction. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The new faculty will join the rotating directorship of the Hamilton in France program in Paris; therefore, candidates should address engagement and experience in study abroad in their letter. Participation in the growing Middle East and World Islamic Studies program is expected.
Hamilton is seeking applications from candidates who can demonstrate their experience in working with diverse populations and who can contribute to the diversity and the excellence of the community through their research, teaching and engagement. A separate statement is required as part of this application.
Candidates should submit materials: letter of intent; résumé; separate statement on teaching both language and upper-level courses; separate statement on contribution to diversity; and three confidential letters of recommendation, via Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/37444. Questions may be directed to Professor Martine Guyot-Bender, Search Committee Chair, at mguyotb@hamilton.edu. Our review of applications will begin on October 20, 2016.
