DISCUSSION TOPIC: Authors Speak: New Books on Extraction and Extractive Practices ⎻ Life in the Time of Oil by Lori Leonard; Enclaves of Exception: Special Economic Zones and Extractive Practices in Nigeria by Omolade Adunbi.

LORI LEONARD, author of Life in the Time of Oil, is a Professor and inaugural chair in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University. She has been a scholar in residence at the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio, Italy and at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (WWICS) in Washington, DC.



OMOLADE ADUNBI, author of Enclaves of Exception: Special Economic Zones and Extractive Practices in Nigeria, is a political and environmental anthropologist and Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies and the Director of the African Studies Center at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is a Faculty Associate, Program in the Environment, the Donia Human Rights Center, and the Energy Institute.
