Project Title: Sexualities and Textualities in/relation to Africa Scope of Research: the project hopes to attract a scholar who is interested in expanding the scope of literary analysis into the contentious question of African sexualities in fiction. (Applications from scholars researching African sexuality and embodiment in other genres, eg. life writing, will also be considered, as will applications from those working on this topic in geographical contexts other than the African, but with valuable comparative possibilities.) Overall, accommodating the successful applicant’s own research foci, the goal is to investigate the potential of ‘the literary’ to address both mainstream and marginalised sexualities, destabilise fixed dichotomies and widen the horizons of the social imaginary.

Requirements: PhD (must have graduated within the last five years). The Postdoctoral research fellow will be expected to write and submit at least two articles to accredited journals, and to teach one undergraduate course during the duration of the fellowship. An applicant’s doctoral research, and the application proposal, should intersect with the field of study outlined above. The fellowship must be taken up by June 2017. Postdoctoral research fellows are not eligible for employee benefits; they are registered as fellows and their bursaries are awarded tax free. The closing date for applications is the 31st March 2017 Please send your CV and a one-page project proposal to Sally Ann Murray at samurray@sun.ac.za
