CFP: “Resilience and the Wandering Subject”

Call for Book Chapters: “Resilience and the Wandering Subject”

Vernon Press invites book chapter proposals to be included in a forthcoming scholarly volume on “Resilience and the Wandering Subject”.

What are the different contours of defining a subject? How does a subject form in the act of resilience?

This edited book would like to explore the concept of a wandering subject, especially in the context of resilience. The wandering subject can be understood as an ever-forming subject through different mobilities. This movement is not just the physical movement compelled by a certain agency but also the various mobilities of the selves of the subject, mobilities through spaces, the interconnections formed with other subjects, and the fluidity between the subject/object/spaces at most times compelled by the spirit of resilience.

The book germinates from the argument that the term, “Wandering Subject,” initially borrowed from Achille Mbembe, has the potential to be a different excursus of being a subject. It could be a mode to re-configure and re-imagine subjects that are in movement, never static, never fully realized, travelling in a liminal space with a constant folding and unfolding of experiences, morphing into different selves. In this context, the book invites scholarly articles on (but not limited to) the following themes:

  1. War and wandering subject
  2. Gender(less) wandering subject
  3. Identity (un)resolution of the wandering subject
  4. Conflict zones and resistance
  5. Relation between space and Wandering subject
  6. (Im)mobilities for resilience
  7. Re-defining subject
  8. Regionality in the subject formation
  9. Wandering subject in theory and praxis
  10. The politics of representing a wandering subject

The length of chapters generally varies from 5,000 to 9,000 words. Please send a title and keywords along with an abstract of no more than 300 words to by September 30, 2022. Authors of accepted proposals will be contacted soon thereafter and asked to submit full papers by December 31, 2022.
